The Initiative

Atlanta Public Schools (APS), Atlanta Urban Development (AUD), and the City of Atlanta are partnering to redevelop several APS-owned sites into innovative mixed-income housing communities, advancing the mayor’s goal of creating or preserving at least 20,000 units of affordable housing by 2030.

The Properties

This partnership includes up to eight properties, starting with the former Peeples Street Elementary and Lakewood Heights Elementary schools.

The Plan

These public agencies are collaborating with communities to create a master redevelopment plan for each, which will result in attractive, marketable housing, and a mix of additional uses on-site as designed by communities. Each plan would inform future rezoning efforts of both properties, identify needed investments in the surrounding community, and support the issuance of a future Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify a development partner or partners to lead the redevelopment of the properties.

The Community

This website is the one-stop shop for community members to learn about the projects, redevelopment plans, and community meetings, and provide insights, and view documents on each. Visit the Project pages for project-specific information.
